It’s T-u-b-o-r-g. Tuborg. Easy. No? Don’t worry. We know - it’s actually quite hard to get it just right. But where does the name come from, and why is it called Tuborg?
The name Tuborg actually stems from a place, not a beer. But as it turns out, that name has quite a history. And a history that makes perfect sense for a brewery. You see, the guy who originally built the building where the Tuborg would be located was called Jonas Thues.
In a fun twist of fate, legend has it that the inn was quite small and haphazard, almost resembling a mud-built hut. But people loved meeting up and having fun there - so as a joke, the locals started calling it Thue’s castle, hinting that although the place was small, the party factor was big.
“Borg” means castle in Danish, and there you have it: Thues Borg, shortened to “Tuborg”.
So that’s where that funny sounding name comes from. And if we’re honest, we wouldn’t have it any other way. Cheers!
